Saleen is situated four miles from Midleton out the Whitegate road. Saleen has a nice forest, if you want to go for a walk. It also has a green with goal posts. The best part of the day is when the ice-cream van comes (about 6pm). There is also a church in Saleen.
Midleton is located in East Cork. It is a twenty minute drive to Cork City from Midleton. Midleton has a great atmosphere and the towns people are very friendly. One of Midleton's most popular attractions is teh Jameson Heritage Centre also known as Midleton Distillery. Midleton town is full of interesting, historical buildings. Midleton College is one of the oldest schools in Ireland, built in 1717. The AIB bank in the High Street was built in 1899, the town hall, built in 1789, is identified by a clock tower. The Holy Rosary Church is distinguished by its 166 foot spire. For shopping and eating out Midleton has wonderful restaurants and shops. The town's farmer's market is held every Saturday from 11am to 2pm accross from the green. it is hugely popular because of its fresh fruit and vegetables and local produce.
East Ferry is a short drive from Midleton. There is a pub, a golf course and a church. You pass through Rathcoursey, a small place with houses and fields. There is also a quay where boats dock and the most beautiful views. It is a twenty minute drive from Cork City and a five minute drive from Whitegate. East Ferry is a harbour within a harbour and a lovely place. Lots of artists come to paint a very beautiful house across the sea from the pub in East Ferry. The house used to belong to the Kelly family (a band that were very big in Germany) but now it belongs to a billionaire. East Ferry attracts a lot of tourists every year, I guess you could call it a little piece of Heaven.
Whitegate has an oil refinery the only one in Ireland. It also has an ESB station which supplies most of East Cork. You'll find a lighthouse in Whitegate helping lots of boats to pass by. There is a beach called Whitebay and every year there is a fundraising event for Chernobyl. It is a sponsored swim at Christmas, so the water is freezing cold. Whitegate has a football pitch, a rowing club, a pitch and putt course, shops, a post office, a church and a school. Trabolgan is also situated in Whitegate.
Rostellan has a couple of shops and pubs and a small park where you can feed swans or sit on the benches and relax.There are lovely walks in Rostellan, a village well worth visiting.
